Carpinteria Salt Marsh
People get married here, they are inspired to paint here, and they meditate too. What more compelling evidence could there be that habitat restoration can also be aesthetically appealing?
This wetland site had once been filled in and slated for development but was returned to its native state with its tidal flow restored. We worked with ecologist Wayne Ferren to create an attractive, inviting interface between the newly created wild-land habitat and the adjacent high density community. To help people understand why wetlands are important, interpretive signage is stationed throughout a trail system that includes gathering areas, an amphitheater, an overlook, and upland native plantings.
